Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 9, 2026

Writly ("we," "us," or "our") operates writlyapp.com and the Writly practice management application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information about you when you use our Service.

Please read this policy carefully. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and billing information (processed securely by our payment processor — we do not store full credit card numbers).

Practice data. The Service is designed for attorneys to manage their practice. Data you enter — including matter information, time entries, client names, billing records, and documents — is stored on your behalf. This data belongs to you.

Usage data. We collect information about how you use the Service, including pages visited, features used, and actions taken, to improve the product and diagnose issues.

Communications. If you contact us by email or subscribe to our blog, we store your email address and the content of your communications.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, operate, and improve the Service
  • To process billing and send receipts
  • To respond to your questions and support requests
  • To send product updates and blog content you've subscribed to (you can unsubscribe at any time)
  • To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your practice data for advertising or share it with third parties for their marketing purposes.

3. Client Confidentiality

We understand that attorneys have strict professional obligations regarding client confidentiality. We treat all practice data — including client names, matter details, and communications — as confidential. Our staff access your data only as necessary to provide support or maintain the Service, and are bound by confidentiality obligations.

You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the Service is consistent with your professional obligations and your jurisdiction's rules of professional conduct.

4. Data Sharing

We share your information only in limited circumstances:

  • Service providers. We use third-party vendors to help operate the Service (e.g., hosting, payment processing, email delivery). These providers access your data only to perform services on our behalf and are contractually bound to protect it.
  • Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or to protect the rights and safety of Writly, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers. If Writly is acquired or merges with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you in advance.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account and practice data for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your account, we will retain your data for 90 days to allow for reactivation or export, after which it will be deleted from our systems. You can request earlier deletion by contacting us.

6. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take the protection of your data seriously.

7. Your Rights and Choices

You can access, update, or delete your account information at any time from within the Service. You can export your practice data at any time. To request deletion of your account and data, contact us at hello@writlyapp.com.

If you have subscribed to our blog or marketing emails, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is intended for adults and legal professionals. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have collected information from a minor, we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice in the Service before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
